My wife has wanted to try Ruby’s Highway 61 Family Diner (14010 112th Ave., Davenport, IA 52802) during the year it has been open. But we had never stopped in until a few nights ago. We weren’t disappointed.
The restaurant, open 8 to 8 Monday through Saturday and 8 to 3 Sunday, is quite large with lots of seating and a full bar. Outdoor seating is also available. (The photos above are from Ruby’s Facebook page.)
We sat inside and were quickly handed a comprehensive menu that included appetizers, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, dinners and kids’ meals. There is a separate menu for breakfasts. Entrees varied between $5 and $10.
Our waitress told us about that day’s specials, and we each selected one. My bride ordered an enchilada dinner – three enchiladas topped with cheese, lettuce and tomatoes with sour cream on the side. She ordered iced tea to drink. I opted for the meatloaf dinner. It included a large helping of both meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I had root beer to drink.
But to start things off, we also ordered a delicious appetizer – breaded mushrooms and ranch dressing – for $5.99.
Our waitress was friendly and efficient and brought us free drink refills without having to be asked. Our meals were tasty and filling. In fact, we each took some of them home for lunch the next day.
Pieces of blueberry pie were available for $3 each, but we had no room left for pie.
Our bill for the appetizer, two dinners, two drinks and tax was less than $25, which we felt was very reasonable. Our waitress took our money at the table and brought back our change.
Ruby’s accepts Visa and MasterCard. The phone number is (563) 381-9086. We will be back.
